Youth sports organizers have attempted, at least in the USA, to create a model of participatory inclusiveness in an effort to counter negative effects on the self esteem of developing children. Yet on every playground, ballfield, and playing court those youngsters that aren’t quite good enough know it. And they know it clearly.
Put Me In Coach represents those young athletes that are good enough to make the team, but not good enough to play with any regularity. They dream; they wish; they show their enthusiasm by gamely suiting up and cheering on their teammates; they go the extra mile.
They know, but still they hope.
